Title: Queen of Hearts (Queen of Hearts Saga #1)
Author: Colleen Oakes
Only queens with hearts can bleed.
This is not the story of the Wonderland we know. Alice has not fallen down a rabbit hole. There is no all-knowing cat with a taunting smile. This is a Wonderland where beneath each smile lies a secret, each tart comes with a demand, and only prisoners tell the truth.
Dinah is the princess who will one day reign over Wonderland. She has not yet seen the dark depths of her kingdom; she longs only for her father’s approval and a future with the boy she loves. But when a betrayal breaks her heart and threatens her throne, she is launched into Wonderland’s dangerous political game. Dinah must stay one step ahead of her cunning enemies or she’ll lose not just the crown but her head.
Evil is brewing in Wonderland and maybe, most frighteningly, in Dinah herself.
This is not a story of happily ever after.
This is the story of the Queen of Hearts.
One of the things I like about this book is the characters. The main character was gripping and interesting. She definitely wasn’t the evil queen we all know in Alice in Wonderland. In the book, I was entertained by her actions, thinking where the story will lead up. What will she do next, what will happen next if she does this? Not only was her character well fleshed out – so were the other characters too, making the plot interesting as I couldn’t put the book down.
The plot was very well crafted. It had a head and tail. It was different from what I expected it; I thought this book was going to be about how she became evil. I’m sure we would like to know how she became like that. There are two more books in the saga, so I think the author ‘might’ explain there.
I rate this 4.2/5.
The writing style is simple and easy to read. It had a nice flow, it was like streaming down the river and listening to the roaring waterfall. That peaceful. Yes, that was how it was read. It has a nice flow…a good, good flow. Beautiful. I will totally recommend this for fans of Alice in Wonderland.
