the enchantress returns

Title: The Land of Stories: The Enchantress Returns

Author: Chris Colfer

Publisher: Little Brown

Goodreads Synopsis:

After decades of hiding, the evil Enchantress who cursed Sleeping Beauty is back with a vengeance.

Alex and Conner Bailey have not been back to the magical Land of Stories since their adventures in The Wishing Spell ended. But one night, they learn the famed Enchantress has kidnapped their mother! Against the will of their grandmother, the twins must find their own way into the Land of Stories to rescue their mother and save the fairy tale world from the greatest threat it’s ever faced.

What can you expect from Chris Colfer? Besides being a talented actor, singer, dancer, I didn’t know he can write too! This book is the second book in the series of The Land of Stories, and though it was the sequel, Colfer still kept me turning the pages.

The plot and the characters were well-developed. I could follow the story well. Although it was slow paced, everything was still exciting and explained well. Colfer pieced things together so there were no plot holes, and so it was a pleasant read.

But somewhere in the middle, I felt the story was getting draggy. Maybe it was the weather that didn’t set the right mood. Or maybe I wasn’t feeling it.

With that being said, I still like the premise as it was interesting and enchanting. Pretty sure Colfer has bewitched me into reading this. I cannot say that I disliked it, I still enjoyed the book. I love joining the Baileys on their epic adventures. I also love it when he switched point of views as it was gripping learn more and see through the other characters’ eyes.

The ending left me at a sad note but all in all, it was a good story. I like the characters, a variety of different personalities and they were very flawed too. I love flawed characters, that is what makes it interesting. Adventure mixed with action-packed. I love the sarcastic comments from Connor, and the lessons learnt in this book.

I rate this book 3.5/5.

That concludes my review. I hope that Colfer keeps coming with more books in the series as it reminds me to be a child once more in my own fairytale. I will certainly pick up his third one! The title has me excited! 😍
