Walking into a Nightmare with Project Sprite (Week 4 of July’s Camp Nanowrimo)

You realise you’re having a nightmare when you cannot wake up! What am I talking about? I’m talking about the procrastination routine I got going. It was already too late to say ‘please let it be a dream!’ when… 😰

….when I woke up the next morning. I checked the calendar and screamed my heart out (was I exaggerating…no…no I wasn’t). Half of the month is already gone because I kept pushing the revision plans to another day! It sucks to be so behind on my editing goal. I thought I had everything planned out but of course I didn’t.

Just when I thought time was on my side.

I put on my game face and pulled an all-nighter….to get the edits done. 😱 *cue the internal screaming* I had to πŸ‘ finish this draft πŸ‘ by the end of July…and I had only edited 14 chapters…(well, 15 so far, at the time posting this). I had another 40 chapters to go, and 10 DAYS to get them DONE!! 😱 😱

When I said ‘pull an all-nighter’, *cough cough* I meant revising only till midnight because if it was later than that, then that would be a no-no to me. πŸ˜…

Anyway, my goal for #ProjectSprite is to edit 20 chapters this week! Am I crazy? YES!! Do you think I can do it? I hope so!! 😰

I’m now realising that I’m not a fan of editing πŸ˜†

Do you prefer editing or drafting?

This was recorded on July 18-22

All about Project Sprite

“This story is so weird! Seriously, who would want to read a story about a feather?” I remember telling myself that back in 2018. I sent this to my CP to review and she told me that the idea was unique, and she enjoyed it. I was shocked, till this day, I still cannot believe that she or anyone would read it. Of course it had some problems in the story…that would be another post.

But I took her advice to revise this story. She was the first one to give me the green light to go forward with this story. So if Sania you’re reading this, thank you so much for giving this story a chance. Sometimes we need a simple ‘YES’ or ‘I enjoyed it’ to encourage us to write the stories we want to write.

PITCH

Feather is not wanted in a world where technology has evolved. Like who uses an ancient tool that doesn’t have an ink compartment like a pen does? No one. Feather loses hope and accepts the truth that he is not needed in his human household anymore. Will he ever fulfill his need of being ‘used’ again? Or will Feather move on and search for a new purpose?

WRITING EXPERIMENT: My FIRST narrative poetry// how it all started

I have never written one before. I have written poems but never in a narrative style. So this is a first for me.Β I don’t even know whether there is a genre for this: fantasy-poetry.

WRITING EXPERIMENT_ WRITING A NARRATIVE POETRY

How it all started?
  • Back in July 2018, there were too many things going on with my life. I was in and out of the hospital. So I wanted to put myself at ease, and had to put my mainstream novel on hold so I can work on something simple! Something like a collection of poems, and since I love writing poetry, so why not!
Β
A few months back, I wrote a poem about a feather and a creature that lives in the woods, and then it hit me! This would be the simplest story idea and it would be easy to make my way through it at the end of Camp Nanowrimo. That’s what I did. I finished the first 50 pages, but, it wasn’t finished…yet. The story had no end! And no essence of a story… it was boring…to me at least.

So I had to do some major tweaking here and there…but did I survive writing this project?

I didn’t. Haha.

Thoughts of wanting to abandon the project were in my mind. I wasn’t thinking straight. A part of me wants to work on something new, and another was feeling like, ‘No, I’m not going to do that, that is cruel.’ Even though this is a quirky story, I still want to make it work.

One day, I decided to sit down and create an outline for it. And from there, I wrote a pitch for it, and a logline in case I needed to refer in the future. I also can keep in mind what this quirky, fun story is about. I tend to forget stuff so yep!

And I got it! I know what this story is going to be.

Project Sprite’s aesthetic:Β

(not official, will have to do some tweaks):

You must be wondering…Alex, where are the humans? Yea…about that…no, your eyes aren’t playing tricks. See that hand picture there, yea, that’s not the MC.

My main character is a Feather (yes, you heard that right.) He is a quill in the story. It is about his life of how he accepts that everything around him is evolving from simple machines to advanced ones.
Β
Oh man, the way I summarise it is boring. But that’s how I can sum it right now haha.
Β
Thank you for reading about my latest WIP: Project Sprite. I’m scraping a bunch of things and making some tweaks here and there to make this story readable. And at the same time, finding my characters’ voice.
